Here, you'll find important information to help you prepare for the workshop, from travel details and accommodation options to safety tips and policies. Whether you're traveling to Rancho Meling for the first time or need guidance on other logistics, this page provides answers to common questions to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

  • What documents do I need to travel to Mexico?
U.S. citizens need a valid passport to enter Mexico. If you plan to rent a car, you may also need a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM), a tourist permit, which is typically provided at the border or can be obtained online.
  • How do I get to Rancho Meling?
Rancho Meling is located in Sierra San Pedro Mártir, Baja California. From Tijuana, the drive takes approximately 4-5 hours, heading south on Highway 1 and then turning east toward the national park. Detailed driving directions will be provided in your workshop materials.
  • Is transportation provided from Tijuana to the workshop location?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide transportation to Rancho Meling. However, carpooling with other participants is often a convenient and cost-effective option. Many attendees coordinate rides, creating a great opportunity to connect with fellow participants before the workshop begins.
  • If I decide to carpool, where is the meeting point?
The meeting point is Dairy Mart Pond at the intersection of Dairy Mart Road and Camino De La Plaza in San Diego. Here is a link for google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mkeUS3YqMjougnfL8 Make sure to contact your workshops' co-host (Jeff Alvarez or Luc Myers) to get more information on the meeting time.
  • Are there specific border crossing tips or times to avoid delays?
Crossing the border early in the morning or late at night tends to have shorter wait times. Avoid weekends and holidays if possible, as these are peak travel times. Make sure to have all your documents ready and be prepared to declare any items you’re bringing into Mexico.
  • Is the water safe to drink, or should I bring bottled water?
The water in Mexico is not recommended for drinking. We advise bringing your own bottled water or purchasing it on-site to stay hydrated during your stay.
  • Are there any safety concerns I should be aware of?
Rancho Meling and its surroundings are generally safe. However, as with any outdoor location, be cautious of uneven terrain, wildlife, and weather conditions. We recommend wearing appropriate footwear and staying alert during activities. Additionally, on your way to Rancho Meling, try to avoid making too many stops. If you do stop, always remember to lock your car and be aware of your surroundings to ensure your safety.
  • What should I do in case of a medical emergency?
Rancho Meling is a remote location, so emergency medical services may take time to arrive. As workshop organizers, we'll have basic first aid supplies, and staff are prepared to assist with minor injuries. For serious emergencies, participants may need to be transported to the nearest medical facility.
  • What kind of accommodations can I expect at Rancho Meling?
Rancho Meling offers rustic yet comfortable accommodations. During the workshop you can decide to either a book a room (wich can vary, depending on your choiche, from $95-115 USD per night) or camp ($23 USD per person/night); at site, payment is by cash only. Shared spaces include a dining area and outdoor gathering spots. Visit for more info: https://ranchomeling.staydirectly.com/

Meals are not included with the workshop payment. You can bring your own food (with the necessary utensils to cook) or you can visit the on-site restaurant that serves a variety of home-cooked meals (https://ranchomeling.staydirectly.com/page?p=restaurant). If you choose this last option and have specific dietary restrictions or allergies, please notify our staff upon arrival to discuss available options.
  • Is there cell phone service or Wi-Fi at the workshop location?
Cell phone service is limited or unavailable at Rancho Meling due to its remote location. Wi-Fi may be available in certain areas, but the connection can be slow or intermittent. We encourage participants to embrace the opportunity to unplug and immerse themselves in the workshop experience.
  • Is there a cancellation or refund policy at the Ranch?
If you decide to change your accommodation choice after payment (e.g., canceling a booked room to camp), a cancellation and refund policy applies. Please review the terms and conditions provided during registration. Generally, cancellations made at least 14 days before the event may qualify for a partial refund, while cancellations closer to the event may not be eligible for a refund.
