The arroyo toad (Anaxyrus californicus) is a fascinating species of amphibian that inhabits the western regions of North America.
With its characteristic sandy color and rough skin texture, this toad has developed remarkable adaptations for living in semi-arid habitats and intermittent streams. Its moderate size, robust body and prominent eyes are distinctive features.
This toad plays a crucial ecological role in controlling insect populations, contributing to the balance of the ecosystem in which it resides. Despite facing conservation problems, the California toad stands out as a valuable and emblematic species in the aquatic and semi-aquatic ecosystems of its geographic range.

The workshop is designed to give you numerous opportunities to see, hear and encounter this species in a variety of locations and among different types of microhabitats.
This master's level Arroyo Toad workshop will give you a hands-on encounter with the species while assisting permitted biologists with their work to support toad populations, incorporating your experience into research-level surveys and occupancy assessments in northern Baja California.
You will be able to see arroyo toads in their habitat during the breeding and larval stage and even see adults and sub-adults.
The people in charge of this workshop bring a wealth of knowledge, as they have decades of experience in surveying and assessing the activity of the arroyo toad. With a great knowledge of the behavior of this species, they excel in locating occupied territories, especially during the crucial breeding season. Their shared knowledge enhances participation in the workshop, so you can gain valuable insights into the ins and outs of the toad's life cycle and ecological interactions.
