ABOUT US

We promote efforts to achieve a greater impact on the conservation of regional biodiversity. We focus on studying less charismatic and poorly understood animal groups, such as amphibians, reptiles, small rodents, terrestrial birds and arthropods, since the lack of information on these taxa limits the necessary conservation actions.

Mission

Promote the sustainable management of natural resources through scientific research, ecological restoration, environmental education and collaboration with scientific sectors. We work to develop solutions that preserve the flora and fauna of northwestern Mexico, promoting knowledge and community engagement as fundamental pillars for the conservation of our natural environment.

Vision

To become a bridge that integrates scientific knowledge, ecological restoration and environmental education with social commitment, leading initiatives that reach a sustainable balance between human development and the preservation of the ecosystems of northwestern Mexico. We aspire to be a global model in the protection of biodiversity, securing a solid and lasting natural legacy for future generations.

Our Team

Executive Director

Dr. Anny Peralta García

Biologist from UABC with a Master’s in Science from SDSU and a PhD in Natural Resource Conservation from CIBNOR. Her research focuses on the distribution, threats, genetics, and conservation of amphibians and other wildlife in northwestern Mexico.

Research Coordinator

MSc. Jorge H. Villavicencio

Biologist from UABC with a Master’s in Science from CIBNOR, specializing in the diversity, ecology, and conservation of herpetofauna in northwestern Mexico. He is the associate curator of UABC’s Herpetological Collection in Ensenada.

Restoration Coordinator

BS. Diego Maldonado

de la Torre

Environmentalist graduated from UABC, focused on conservation of native species, sustainable development and ecological restoration. He is working on his thesis on pollinator-plant communities in the chaparral of Baja California.

Grant writer

BBA. David Pérez Cañas

Trained in business, he is passionate about rural life and aware of its environmental and social challenges. He specializes in fundraising and fund management for research, restoration and ecosystem conservation projects.

BS. Angela Tamayo

Biologist graduated from UABC, interested in bird conservation and ecology. She has volunteered in expeditions in Baja California and Guadalupe Island. She is currently developing a project on plant-bird interactions at the UABC Botanical Garden.

Community Manager

BS. David Mora

Biologist graduated from the Faculty of Sciences (UABC), with experience in the Environmental Education Center “Muros de Agua” in Islas Marías and exhibitions in science weeks at UABC. Passionate about the relationship between society and nature.

Administrator

Cinthia Haro

With extensive experience in the administrative management of conservation associations, she excels at coordinating operational functions and contributing to the preservation of species with great passion and skills.

Project and logistics assistant

BS. Brayan León Serrano

Biologist graduated from the Faculty of Sciences of the UABC, with a deep passion for turtles and environmental education. He is currently developing his thesis on the ecological aspects of the pond turtle.

Dr. Sula Vanderplank

Botanist expert in vegetation and biodiversity conservation in Baja California. PhD. in Plant Ecology from the University of California, Riverside, her research has been key to conservation at several sites on the peninsula.

Dr. Arturo Ramírez Valdez

Marine ecologist specialized in coastal environments and ecosystem services, with a master's degree in coastal oceanography (UABC) and a PhD in marine biology (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego). He has experience in directing research and teaching at UC San Diego, UABC and CIAD.

MSc. Salvador González Guzmán

With great sadness, we say goodbye to our dear friend Salvador, Coordinator of Environmental Education and Bird Conservation. A biologist with a Master of Science from UABC, he dedicated over 15 years to wildlife conservation, leaving an invaluable mark on our organization and northwestern Mexico. His passion for nature lives on, inspiring us every time a bird takes flight.
