Education and scientific outreach

Environmental education is a key element in the success of biodiversity conservation, which should seek to make society take ownership of its natural environment and take actions for its conservation. For this, we seek to implement actions that allow the interaction of society with the environment, to achieve a bond of respect and admiration, leading to the constant care of our biodiversity.

Naturalist workshop

From 2016 to 2023, we collaborated with the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) to promote the Naturalista citizen science platform. During this period, we conducted more than 50 training workshops on using the Naturalista platform in schools at various levels, institutions, and for the general public.

Atlas of amphibians and reptiles

We partnered with the San Diego Natural History Museum to develop a platform that serves as a resource for learning about the amphibians and reptiles of Peninsular California, a region encompassing Southern California and the Baja California Peninsula. This platform provides information on specimens collected during expeditions, scientific explorations, and various research projects, and is available free of charge to the public. BioBlitz

As part of our effort to bring science closer to the community and contribute significantly to the collection of relevant, open-access data for research, we conduct the Bioblitz every year. This event allows us to reach understudied areas and generate knowledge about our local natural heritage.

The goal is to identify and record as many species as possible in a specific location during a short period, with the help of volunteers, scientists, and academics. Furthermore, with the Next Generation of Sonoran Desert Researchers participating in the Border BioBlitz, we aim to document biodiversity on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. international border.

Day of the Earth workshop

We have been invited by various organizations and institutions to share topics related to the herpetological diversity of our region, current environmental issues, and our work as a civil association dedicated to conservation. Through these talks, we hope to inform and raise awareness among attendees about the impact wildlife faces globally, as we know that intentionally sharing information with others fosters changes in attitude and promotes individual and collective responsibility.
